New Nonstop Miami Cozumel Flights

American Airlines confirmed, this week, that they will start new non-stop flights five times a week between Miami and Cozumel.

Dori Robau Alvarez, spokesperson for the airline, told This is Cozumel the tickets will go on sale as soon as the route receives final approval from the Mexican authorities.

Although Alvarez couldn't say when they expect to get the go ahead she did confirm they plan to start the flights on November 21, 2013 and the service will be year-round, not seasonal.

Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a capacity for 150 passengers will be used for the new connection between the island and Florida's "Magic City", making round-trip journeys every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

American Airlines began operations into Miami International Airport in 1979 and established it as a hub in 1989. They use it to connect the U.S. to key markets in Mexico and the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean.

In 2012, American and their regional partner airline, American Eagle, carried more than 27 million passengers through the Miami hub.
