ASUR, the authority that runs Cozumel Airport, said on Wednesday that there was a 19.9 per cent increase in passengers through the island's airport in the 3 months ending on September 30, 2007, compared with the same period in 2006.

In 2006, the 3 month period saw 96,000 passengers using Cozumel's international airport. In 2007, this increased to 115,100.

Out of these, 96,400 were international passengers and 18,700 were domestic.

The authority said that the increase was mainly due to favorable comparisons with the 2006 numbers, which had been affected by Hurricane Wilma in October 2005.

ASUR (Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A.B. de C.V.) is a Mexican airport operator with concessions to operate, maintain and develop the airports of Cancun, Merida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlan in the southeast of Mexico.
