A report by Por Esto! newspaper today says that the Mexican Federal Electrical Commission's work to restore power in Cozumel is almost complete. 95 per cent of the population now have electricity and 100 per cent of the tourist zones are reconnected, although some hotels still have repairs to make to their own electrical systems.

Mexican newspaper Por Esto! reported today that 30 per cent of downtown businesses were already open in Cozumel. They said others were working hard to open in time for 14 November when cruise ships return.

Gas stations no longer have long line-ups in Cozumel as life returns to normal. The vast majority of areas now have electricity - including downtown.

Cozumel's diamond stores - a long time cruise ship favourite - will be open in good number for the return of the first ships. Four are already open on the seafront and Diamonds International, the biggest chain, is confident it will have another 6 or 7 stores open by 14 November.

The spirit of the people is incredible, the whole island has been out shoulder to shoulder cleaning up and rebuilding. Power has returned and many shops, bars and restaurants are open - NOW!
