Passenger Ferry

Two ferry companies operate the route between Cozumel and Playa del Carmen on the mainland: Winjet (orange) and Ultramar (yellow). The crossing takes about 40 minutes and departs from the Ferry Pier downtown.

Note: the ferries are running a slightly reduced service at the moment departing approximately every 1-2 hours with the first ferry to Cozumel usually at 8am and the last one back usually at 9pm. They are currently alternating days, so one company runs the service on even days of the month and the other runs it on odd days of the month. This may change at any time though, so check with the ferry companies directly for the latest information, their contact details are below.

One way ferry fares cost around $11 for adults and $9 for children. Round-trip fares cost around $22 for adults and $18 for children (depending which company you travel with and the offers available).

The boats are large, modern, stable boats that cross to the island in about 40 minutes and offer great views on the way. They have inside areas with air-conditioning and open air decks too. There's a bar service onboard and some even have live music.

Cozumel Ferry

Ferry tickets can be bought at the pier which is centrally located in Playa del Carmen. If you're staying in Cancun it's about a 1 hour transfer to the ferry by private van.
