The countdown to Cozumel Carnival 2013 has started! Colorful dancers are popping up on streets downtown and party music is once again filling the air. The Carnival dates have been confirmed and the main week of events will take place from Wednesday, February 6 to Wednesday, February 13, 2013, with the biggest night being Mardi Gras on Fat Tuesday, February 12, 2013. |
The competition has already kicked off for the six spectacular candidates for Carnival King and Queen, as they prepare their costumes and dances ready for their performances in the big salas.
The island's family-friendly festival has over 130 years of history and the week of main Carnival events concludes every year on 'Fat Tuesday' with dazzling technicolour processions along Cozumel's downtown seafront.
People line the street, dancing with the performers and catching gifts that are showered on them.
After the seafront extravaganza, the music keeps playing and parties continue well into the night.
Costumed revellers battle in dancing competitions and bands play live music around the city.
