Carnival fever is taking over Cozumel again. Last week the official King and Queen were elected in a dance and music spectacular that lasted until the small hours of the morning. At the end of the night, when all the votes were counted, 'Gato' was elected King and 'Leslie' as Queen.
Carnival is Cozumels noisiest, brightest, flashiest and happiest annual event. In the lead up to the main parades there are costume, music and dancing competitions all over the city. The sparkling, multi-colored sequin-and-feather-covered participants take the competitions very seriously - most have been preparing all year!
The main Carnival events take place between 22 and 28 February 2006.
