Mouths will be watering and tastebuds tingling in Playa del Carmen this September, at the Taste of Playa 2009 International Food Festival.

Last week, organizers announced this exciting new event to showcase the unique gastronomic visions and creativity of over 35 of the best local restaurants.

The community oriented culinary congress will celebrate the creativity and diverse cultural influences of chefs throughout Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya, promoting the unique culinary perspectives that have contributed to the area's cosmopolitan reputation.

Mayor of Playa, Roman Quian, said, "We are proud to celebrate the chefs that have chosen Playa del Carmen as their creative base. This international collection of chefs, flavors and culinary inspiration is what has made Playa Del Carmen one of the most popular destinations in the world".

The gourmet sampling will take place in the newly renovated city center plaza, Parque Los Fundadores, on September 5, 2009, and is open to the public.

A portion of the money raised from Taste of Playa will be awarded to Ak Lu'um International School, a non-profit private learning institution in Playa del Carmen.
