A rare deep water fish has been discovered by divers in Cozumel, said the island's Marine Park this week. Sadly already dead, the Oarfish - Regalecus Glesne - was found by Omar Gómez, from Deep Exposure divers, at a depth of 40m (130ft) in the Paraiso Reef area off the south west coast of the island.

A new protected nature reserve is being made in the north east of Cozumel, said Mexican newspaper Por Esto! in an article earlier this week. The reserve is being created to protect the area's ecology following the apparently unauthorized construction of an access road.
