Following the success of the shorter Ironman 70.3 in September, Iron men and women will once again do battle, on Sunday, but this time it's a full triathlon of more than 140 miles (225 km).

The Ironman course in Cozumel is one of the most spectacular in the world. The great visibility of water, spectacular ocean side roads and incredible hosts, turns this event into an unforgettable experience for participants.

Among the restricted number of competitors, this year, will be many of the top ten professional triathlete in the world. This special race is able to go ahead despite COVID due to 5 important principles the organizers are following: Enhanced Hygiene; Screening and Education; Density Reduction, Touchpoint Minimization; and Athlete Self-Reliance.

Supporters will also have limited access to the route, to avoid crowds forming, such as closing access to Chankanaab Park where the race begins.

The races are an endurance test of swimming, cycling and running, and forms part of the Ironman World Series. The Ironman World Championship was started in Hawaii in 1978 and has grown in popularity year-on-year.

The 2.4 mile (3.8 km) swim begins at the island's Chankanaab Park where athletes experience a picturesque swim with colorful fish and coral reefs during the two-loop course.

Following the first gruelling challenge is a 112 mile (180 km) cycle race on the roads around Cozumel, before finishing with a 26 mile (42 km) run, encompassing the downtown center of Cozumel.
