International passenger numbers jumped 19.2% at the island’s airport, last month, and a new direct route between Cozumel and Miami was launched.

American Airlines started making round-trip journeys between Florida's Magic City and Cozumel every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with room for 150 passengers.

American Airlines uses Miami International Airport to connect the U.S. to key markets in Mexico and the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean.

ASUR, Cozumel airport's operator, said 24,646 passengers used the island's terminal in November 2013, compared with 20,675 the same month last year.

ASUR is a New York Stock Exchange listed Mexican company that runs the airports of Cancun, Merida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlan in the southeast of Mexico.
