Boosted by the Easter vacations, Cozumel airport was extra busy in March with 59,487 international passengers traveling through the terminal.

According to figures released last week by ASUR, the airport operator, this is a 2.4% increase in international traffic compared with March 2012, when there were 58,108 passengers.

Domestic traffic was slightly down, with 2.1% fewer passengers, meaning the net effect was a 1.9% total increase in passengers at the island's airport for the month.

Easter has been busy in Cozumel with tens of thousands of cruise ship passengers visiting the island and many hotels reporting they are at least 90% full.

ASUR is the New York Stock Exchange listed Mexican airport company that runs the airports of Cancun, Merida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlan in the southeast of Mexico.
