More air passengers.

Cozumel airport saw a busy March, with the number of passengers traveling through the international terminal 7.2% higher than the same period in 2011.

Yesterday, airport operator, ASUR, said a total of 65,354 people used the airport last month, an average of over 2,100 each day.

Most of the increase came from domestic flights, which saw an 86.9% rise in passengers, mainly due to the new Interjet route from Mexico City.

But international traffic was also higher, for the first time in almost a year. ASUR said a total of 58,108 international passengers went through the airport in March 2012, up 1.8% on the 57,104 in the same month last year.

ASUR (Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, S.A.B. de C.V.) is the New York Stock Exchange listed Mexican airport operator that runs the airports of Cancun, Merida, Cozumel, Villahermosa, Oaxaca, Veracruz, Huatulco, Tapachula and Minatitlan in the southeast of Mexico.
