The charms of Cozumel have long inspired artists and the island is home to a wide range of creative talent.

Whatever your taste and wherever you are in Cozumel, you'll find some of Mexico's finest works of art on show, from paintings, to sculptures to murals and more.

Recently opened at the Hotel Flamingo downtown is an exhibition by much-loved local artist Galo Ramírez.

Tom Fryer, owner of the Hotel Flamingo, met Galo 13 years ago when he purchased the hotel and fell in love with the artist's watercolors, which decorated the rooms.

Now, Galo, no longer a struggling artist, has a fantastic selection of his paintings exhibited throughout the hotel and visitors can take a unique, original painting home for $300–$600.

Another artistic island favorite is wall art cooperative, Cozumel Murals. Headed by Mariano de Petit de Murat, the group has been creating beautiful paintings on the island for 10 years.

They recently finished a combination of two big murals at a luxury oceanfront condo and an underwater scene at Las Ventanas condos with 10 different species including turtles, barracudas and lobsters.

You'll find beautiful murals and paintings delighting you in all sorts of places in Cozumel, not to mention some breathtaking and thought-provoking sculptures, in parks, streets and buildings everywhere.

Be sure to look out for all the art when you visit Cozumel, there are many hidden treasures, from the jolly, colorful styles of Mario Mizrahi to the Cuban Caribbean influences in the work of Pavel Llompart.
