"El Cedral is partying and the party is for everyone", announced the organizers of this year's El Cedral Festival last week.

The Festival of El Cedral and the Fiestas of Santa Cruz are held in this small south Cozumel town every year.

The 2009 program was officially announced by the local Cozumel government last week, the event will start next Sunday, April 26 and run through to the following Sunday, May 3.

The party includes fairs, traditional feasts, rodeos, bullfights, music and competitions - not to mention a few bottles of ice cold Mexican beer!

The event is said to have been started over 150 years ago by Casimiro Cárdenas, one of a group that fled to the island from the village of Saban, on the mainland, after an attack during the War of the Castes.
