World's Earliest Photos Found In Cozumel

 

This story was posted as an April Fool joke and is entirely fictitious.

Archeologists in Cozumel have uncovered what they believe to be the world's first photographs, suggesting the Mayans invented photography over 1,000 years ago.

At a dig at an undisclosed site close to San Gervasio ruins, Professor Andreas Magnacio from the University of Inocentes in Mexico City, found a collection of faded "geographs", a form of photograph that uses light-sensitive limestone tablets to record images, rather than photographic paper.

If you're visiting Cozumel between March 9 and April 5, 2014, watch out for an extra one hour time difference between Mexico and the United States and Canada.

This happens because the United States and Canada change to Daylight Savings Time before Mexico and is especially important for cruise passengers, as some ships stay on the time of their United States homeport, even when they arrive to Cozumel.

$28 Million Investment For Cozumel Airport

Earlier this month, ASUR, the company that runs Cozumel airport, said it will invest $28 million in the island's international terminal between now and 2028.

In an exclusive interview with This is Cozumel, the airport's director, Armando Gamboa, said the money would be used to maintain and further improve the terminal and that more details will be released in due course.
