Cozumel cruise Disney Magic

An extremely lucky cruise passenger was rescued by a cruise ship, near Cozumel, after falling overboard from another cruise ship several hours before, and spending part of the night in the sea.

Disney cruise lines confirmed the crew of their ship, the Magic, saved a man from the water on Thursday morning. US media reports said Royal Caribbean cruise lines had confirmed he was a 22 year passenger who had been traveling on their Oasis of the Seas cruise ship, which was sailing to Cozumel at the time.

According to Mexican newspaper, Milenio, the passenger is now in a stable condition in a medical center in Cozumel. The paper reported that Royal Caribbean didn’t know their passenger had fallen overboard.

Miami-based maritime lawyer, Jim Walker, said the incident should be "a major embarrassment" for Royal Caribbean and that their ships fail to comply with requirements for automatic man overboard detection systems.

It is not clear how the man fell into the sea and Royal Caribbean were unavailable to comment at the time of writing, but we will provide more updates in the comments below and on our Facebook and Google+ pages as and when we have them.
