Cozumel Ironman Thrills Island Crowds

 

The Cozumel Ironman endurance competition at the end of last month was a roaring success, for the third year in a row.

Almost 2,500 athletes gathered from 61 countries to swim, cycle and run past thousands of cheering locals and island visitors.

These alien looking creatures spend much of their life in holes around Cozumel's mangroves, so they are often only seen when they make their spectacular mass migrations.

Island Wildlife: Pygmy Raccoons

This new article in our series about native Cozumel wildlife takes a look at the island's Pygmy Raccoons.

Pygmy Raccoons are seen frequently in the north-west of Cozumel and it's sometimes hard to believe that these friendly little creatures are actually on the endangered species list.

However, even though they can be quite easy to spot, they are endemic to Cozumel, meaning they are not found anywhere else in the world.
