Ready for Carnival 2010!

Carnival fever is rising again as the dates were confirmed for the 2010 event, last week. At the presentation of Carnival King and Queen candidates, organizers said the biggest 4 nights of parades will be from Saturday, February 13th, to Tuesday, February 16th, 2010. The main Carnival events will start on January 23rd, with the reception of the newly elected 2010 King and Queen.

Organizers said top salsa band, "La Sonora de Margarita", will be stirring up the crowds at the ceremony.

A variety of other exciting Carnival dance and music frenzies will also take place during the first 2 weeks of February. We will publish the full program soon in our top-ranking Cozumel Carnival pages.

The winner of the Cozumel Carnival 2010 poster competition was also unveiled at the announcement last week. The annual contest attracts spectacular technicolor designs with the favorite being chosen to officially represent the event.

The slogan emblazened across the kaleidoscopic design is "Cozumel Carnival 2010, On an Island of Peace, a Carnival Like Never Before" - a proud reference to Cozumel's official new status as Island of Peace.

The island's spectacular annual Mardis Gras has over 130 years of history and is held around February every year.

The week of main Carnival events concludes on 'Fat Tuesday' with dazzling processions along Cozumel's seafront downtown.

After the seafront extravaganzas, the music keeps playing and parties continue well into the night. Costumed revellers battle in dancing competitions and bands play live music around the city.
