Mexican pop diva, Gloria Trevi, played at the opening of Cozumel Carnival
2009 on Saturday night.
More than 6,000 people attended the presentation of the2008 Carnival King and
Queen, Jalil Martín Gaeta and Andrea Chacón Nuñez, which
was followed by Trevi's dance and music spectacular.
The controversial, but much-loved, "Mexican Madonna", brought the house down
with a performance of over 2 hours.

The Carnival King and Queen appeared in full technicolor costume at this
"pre-carnaval" event.
Carnival has
over 130 years of history on the island and is held around this time every
year.

This year the weekend of main Carnival events starts on Saturday, February
21st.
After 4 days and nights of music and mayhem it will finish on 'Fat Tuesday', February 24th, with dazzling technicolour
processions along Cozumel's downtown seafront.

Cozumel's Carnival is thought to be the oldest in the Yucatan Peninsula
and possibly in the whole of Mexico.
