A new protected nature reserve is being made in the north east of Cozumel, said Mexican newspaper Por Esto! in an article earlier this week. The reserve is being created to protect the area's ecology following the apparently unauthorized construction of an access road.
The paper reported that Gustavo Ortega, Mayor of Cozumel, said those responsible for the road will have to repair the damage, pay a fine and go to jail.
