Half A Million Turtles In 3 Years |

In the last 3 years, 6,510 nests were registered and 526,942 baby turtles released under Cozumel's Turtle Protection Program.
Last week, Christopher González Baca, the island's Deputy Director for the Environment, applauded the program's volunteers for working so hard.

In 2007, a total of 2,926 turtle nests were recorded and 261,412 hatchlings were released.
González said that the most successful results have been presented at national and international meetings and helped to establish new regulations.
More than 100 volunteers work for the Turtle Protection Program that is overseen by the local government.
