Cozumel's municipal government announced a new competition called "Magic Hands of the Caribbean" on Monday.
Open to all local artisans and craftspeople, it aims to stimulate creativity and give a boost to popular art and crafts on the island.

Arquímedes Hernández Villanueva, the island's Deputy Director for Sustainable Development, said entries should follow the theme "Cozumel and her natural resources".
The island's artisans can submit work in a wide range of categories, including fabrics, embroidery, wood, stone, shell and other marine materials.
The winner of each category will receive a cash prize of $555 and runners up $370 each.
The closing date for entries is November 30, 2007.
