Cozumel news

17 July 2007: Cozumel airport expected 66 flights this week bringing a large influx of tourists, mostly from overseas. Reported by Noticaribe/El Quintanarroense.

10 July 2007: Chankanaab Park will host the 2008 Annual Caribbean Cruise Conference in October, organized by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA). Reported by Noticaribe/Enfoque Radio.

08 July 07: Owners of condominiums and other vacation rentals are making a 'fortune' in Cozumel at the expense of traditional hotels. Reported by Por Esto!.

06 July 07: Despite a tripling in population since 1980, Ecoz, the new agency responsible for garbage and recycling in Cozumel, has streamlined the collection and disposal of waste on the island, said its Director, Fernando Espinoza Cisneros. Reported by Por Esto!.

02 July 2007: Architectural plans have been presented to the island's port authority for the redevelopment of the downtown passenger ferry pier. The project is expected to cost around $4.7 million. Reported by Noticaribe/Enfoque Radio.

01 July 2007: Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, President of Mexico, spent a weekend on vacation in Cozumel with his wife and children. It's the second time the Mexican leader has visited the island on vacation. Reported by Noticaribe/Enfoque Radio.

14 June 2007: Ancient remains have been uncovered in the small town of El Cedral in Cozumel. Construction workers found human remains that are thought to be Mayan as well as clay pots and seashells. Reported by Noticaribe/Enfoque Radio.
