Local Playenses and tourists visiting the Rivera Maya flocked to the zocalo in downtown Playa del Carmen to participate in the annual El Grito.
As 11:00 PM approached on Friday evening noise makers blasted and people got ready to yell Viva Mexico! The town exploded at 11:00 PM as the governor addressed the masses, and you could hear Viva Mexico! echoing through the streets. As the sky lit up with fireworks happy party goers were in a celebratory mood; bars and nightclubs were packed as people celebrated into the wee hours.
