Cozumel News - 2006 Archive

Mexican President, Vicente Fox Quesada, officially re-opened Punta Langosta cruise ship pier in Cozumel last week.

He was in Cozumel as part of a visit to the region for the International Day of Tourism on 27 September.

President Fox congratulated Cozumel Islanders once again on their speedy recovery after Hurricane Wilma passed last October. He described the recovery as "a triumph of collective determination over adversity" that set an example for other Mexicans.

More than 50 million pesos ($4.7 million) has been spent on reconstructing the pier and its buildings, footways and security systems. The pier is now ready to dock two ships alongside and can receive a greater number of passengers than before.
