Cozumel's rugged Eastern side is as beautiful as ever. Sand has shifted around making and re-shaping beaches. The road has been eroded away in places, most impressively at Chen Rio where a new river now crosses - some 8m in width and 1.5m deep.
Trees and plants are damaged but will recover fast. Turtles, iguanas and herons are all visible. The sparce buildings have faired pretty well, although the Punta Morena bar and restaurant is all but ruined. The road will take time to repair.
