Cozumel's diamond stores - a long time cruise ship favourite - will be open in good number for the return of the first ships. Four are already open on the seafront and Diamonds International, the biggest chain, is confident it will have another 6 or 7 stores open by 14 November.
Gary Klein, General Manager of Diamonds International in Cozumel, said good co-operation with authorities had helped them recover so quickly. Stores have been given welcome rental tax breaks and international chains like Diamonds International have donated important emergency equipment to the local community.
