Cozumel News - 2005 Archive
Nov 15, 2005

The people of Cozumel celebrated their recovery and greeted returning cruise ship passengers yesterday. There were smiles on the faces of locals and visitors alike, as they enjoyed mariachi bands, children's folkloric dancing, historic Mayan dancing displays and Caribbean music.

Gustavo Ortega Joaquín, the Mayor of Cozumel, thanked all of those involved in the recovery, including the Mexican Navy, Federal Commission for Electricity, the Public Water Authority, the Park authorities, local people and businesses and the cruise lines. Cozumel-born Félix González Canto, State Governor of Quintana Roo, was also present. He said that he had never felt more proud in his life to come from Quintana Roo and to have been born in Cozumel.
