In the jungles of Mexico, Guatemala and Belize they are known as duendes in Spanish, or aluxes in the native Mayan language.
Perhaps better described as 'imps' or 'goblins', these mystical creatures are said to be just as mischievous as their Irish cousin, the leprechaun.

Important lessons were learnt in the 2007 turtle nesting season, said Christopher González Baca, Cozumel's Deputy Director for the Environment last week.
Almost 3,000 nests were counted on the island's beaches and a study was made about the effect of climate change on the eggs.

The Mexican homebuilding industry is "booming" said Fitch Ratings, in a report released at the end of last month.
The New York and London based financial experts said that the Mexican government has helped the sector and that further growth could be expected.
They reported that housing is one of the country's most "dynamic industries", transformed over the past few years by a developing Mexican mortgage market.

ASUR, the authority that runs Cozumel Airport, said on Wednesday that there was a 19.9 per cent increase in passengers through the island's airport in the 3 months ending on September 30, 2007, compared with the same period in 2006.
