Big Boss, Daddy Yankee
  Double MTV Latin America Award nominee, Daddy Yankee, has confirmed he will play in Cozumel on October 16, 2007.

The top Puerto Rican urban music artist will hold a concert at the island's baseball stadium as part of "The Big Boss" Latin American tour.

The tour is to promote his reggaeton music album "El Cartel: The Big Boss", released earlier this summer.

Cozumel's new musical 'anthem' - Himno a Cozumel - was launched last week.

10,000 copies of the words are being distributed to local schools and colleges along with 100 CDs.

The contest is open to locals over the age of 50, in an effort preserve and revive traditional family dishes.

Cozumel is preparing for Mexican Independence Day celebrations on September 16th.

The day remembers the Grito de Dolores, a call for Mexicans to rebel against the Spanish, made by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in 1810.

  Local Mayan history was remembered and honored at a traditional ceremony in Cozumel last Wednesday.

The Saása´Al Símil - 'Plea for Forgiveness' - took place on the terrace at the Quintana Roo Park.

The ceremony was conducted by a Mayan priest and attended by Gustavo Ortega Joaquín, the island's Mayor.

Local Real Estate 'Summit' Planned

  Atlas Legal, a US conference organizer, will be holding a 'summit' for the real estate market in Playa del Carmen, near Cozumel, next month.

They have held other property events in Mexico in the past, but this is the first that will focus on the Mexican Caribbean.

Cozumel was lucky last month. When Hurricane Dean passed by to the south it only brought a little wind and rain.

The island is fine, but some of Cozumel's cousins on the mainland weren't so fortunate.

Cozumel Calender Raises Money For Cancer

  The launch of the Denver Bronco's 2008 calendar raised more than $15,000 for curing breast cancer, said Teresa Shear, director of the US football team's cheerleaders last week.

The cheerleaders' calendar photos were shot in Cozumel earlier in the year.
